Session Sponsored by Haymarket Medical Education and RedMedEd
Yes. Yes, we do. You may think you are up to date on the latest news about generative AI because you listened to a webinar about it last month, but we have some sad news for you, my friend – you are already out of touch (and probably still confused.) Advances in this area are moving faster than a cheetah on roller skates (that’s fast!) and it’s either keep up or be left behind. Lucky for you, CMEpalooza has you covered. Join Andrew and Brian as they use real-time demos to cover everything from the basics of AI chatbots to utilizing AI in the workplace to a tutorial on how to properly structure prompts. You might still need another session about AI after this one, but we guarantee that you will be better informed than you were before.

Reaffirming Our Relevance: Myths and Misconceptions about CME and Implications for Our Industry (view archive)
There are scores of TED talks, blogs, podcasts, and texts that speak to the importance of “out-of-the-box” thinking to drive innovation and growth. Yet determining what ideas fall inside versus outside of the box, and who gets to define the box, are a matter of perspective and debate. Surprisingly, these ideas are infrequently debated within our industry, and some may contend that recognition of innovation is a measure of good marketing versus effective ideation. So why aren’t topics relating to competition, educational product quality, meaningful impact, and financial health covered in our industry education? Are they seen as too business-centric? Is there a perception that any discussion of these issues undermines the academic pursuits of CME? In this panel discussion, we’ll talk to industry leaders to better understand these issues and their implications for our industry.

Think Again: Challenging the Path of Least Resistance (view archive)
A classic strategy for Improv is to keep a skit going with “Yes, and….” In our work as continuing education professionals, we face the challenge of effectively addressing clinical practice gaps. This can be messy work. Would we benefit from approaching our work with “yes, and…”? Consider the impact of choosing to battle our heuristic tendencies, or avoiding mental shortcuts that tell us X is true so we don’t need to think on it anymore. What potential would open to us? Our expert and curious panel will explore ways to take this stance in everyday challenges, such as in assessment question design, using open-ended outcomes data, and knowledge improvement can have an actual change effect.

Case Conundrums in CME (view archive)
Session Sponsored by Healio CME and Academic CME
Due to popular demand (is unpopular demand a thing?), we’re bringing back one of our most popular sessions from CMEpaloozas past. Ever found yourself in a sticky professional situation that you couldn’t quite figure out how to get out of? Ever had 72 hours of work to get done in a 24-hour day? Ever forget how to turn on your computer in the morning? If you answered yes to any of these questions, well, we’ve got just the session for you. We’ve got two teams of continuing education vets – one representing the MECC world and the other the association world – to talk through a variety of challenging issues in an engaging and interactive case-based format. To make things even tougher for our panelists, they will only get each case 24 hours before this session to ensure that they are thinking on their feet, just like we all have to do on a daily basis.

Improving Patient Care for the LGBTQ+ Community through Continuing Education: A Panel Discussion (view archive)
Session Sponsored by DKBmed
Stigma and discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ+) community—whether intentional, unintentional, or due to implicit bias—can negatively affect the health and well-being of the LGBTQ+ population. Moreover, many healthcare professionals (HCPs) do not routinely discuss gender identity or sexual orientation with their patients, despite the fact that this information is an essential part of their medical history. HCPs may lack the knowledge or language to discuss these topics comfortably with their patients and may not realize that disparities in health care for LGBTQ+ patients can stem from this lack of affirming communication, allowing mental health stressors and issues to remain unaddressed. This session will focus on continuing education initiatives that address these issues in an effort to improve the healthcare experience for LGBTQ+ people.

FADE Out HIV – Connecting Black Barbers, Their Clients and Community Clinicians (view archive)
Session Sponsored by PlatformQ
Black and Brown individuals in the U.S. are disproportionately affected by HIV. In 2018, they accounted for 13% of the population, but 42% of new HIV diagnoses were among Black men, accounting for 31% of new diagnoses. Fade Out HIV addressed these gaps by establishing alliances between healthcare providers and barbershops serving the Black and Brown community in Los Angeles. This initiative delivered education to barbers in the Black and Brown communities, their clients, and community clinicians. The initiative started at a barber convention (BarberCon LA) and expanded into the community from there, eventually educating almost 400 barbers and 300 clinicians, and helping to establish a referral network of 21 testing centers in the Los Angeles area. This session will focus on the nuts and bolts of this initiative, offering insight into what worked (and what didn’t), while helping to set a roadmap for similar projects in the future. You may remember this session was hastily postponed in the spring due to a tornado warning – we promise this won’t happen again this fall!
