2024: A Challenging Year for the CME Enterprise? (view archive)
Session Sponsored by Healio CME and Integrity CE
In 2024-25, the CME enterprise faces several challenges. First, independent medical education (IME) budgets may decline due to multiple pressures, including government clamp downs on drug pricing. Company-led education may also reduce IME budgets, as industry seeks additional control of the educational programs they support. Learning formats/styles are changing on multiple fronts. Younger learners/clinicians often prefer shorter formats in the age of TikTok, yet the AMA only allows for 15-minute accredited activities. AI may also have a dramatic impact on the CME enterprise from the provider side (e.g. needs assessment to content development and formats) and the funder side (e.g. grant requests, submission prioritization, and possibly selection). Finally, supporters will be looking for more data to ensure their continued support of IME. Providers will need to find new ways to overcome learners’ reluctance to respond to 30-day outcomes (perhaps EHR and claims data?) and address industry’s increasing concerns regarding the value of subjective data. While these are indeed challenges, they also offer opportunities that can ultimately result in a better CME enterprise.

Navigating AI Integration in Continuing Medical Education: A Strategic Approach (view archive)
Abstract created in part by OpenAI (Reviewed and edited by an Expert Human)
This activity is tailored for continuing professional development (CPD) professionals, educators, writers, clinical content experts, and supporters in the CME/CE community. Our goal is to demystify and harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing the field of continuing professional development.
