Momentum is only as good as the next day’s starter. – Earl Weaver
Exactly one month ago, Scott wrote a blog post trumpeting “We have momentum!” We then proceeded to write a grand total of zero blog posts since then. That’s some momentum. Personally, I blame the heat. It’s been so hot in Philly, the dog swore at me when I tried to take her out for a walk. Who knew greyhounds had such a potty mouth?
The good news is that, despite our lack of blog momentum, we have actually been doing some work behind the scenes, and our CMEpalooza Fall agenda is rounding into shape nicely. It’s not quite ready for prime time, but I thought I would at least give you all a sneak peak into what I think might be our best agenda ever (and yes, we say that every year). So, here are a few things you can expect in the 2019 CMEpalooza Fall agenda:
- An exclamation point in the title of a session
- A reworking of the lyrics to Drake’s Hotline Bling
- A Back to the Future II reference
- Pet rocks, mood rings, and Cabbage Patch Dolls
- A CME detective
- Quizzo!
- Mystery session(s) (to build suspense)
If that doesn’t get you excited for CMEpalooza Fall, then I don’t know what will. Fingers crossed, we hope to have the agenda close to finalized and posted in the next week or two. Stay tuned!

On a more serious note, I wanted to offer a brief tribute to my dad, Don Warnick, who passed away a few weeks ago. Perhaps this is a silly place to do such a thing, but Dad was extremely proud of CMEpalooza, even though he didn’t really understand how it worked or what I do. He was my sounding board when I first came up with the idea for palooza, encouraged me to give it a try even though I expected it to fail, and loved the fact that I was creating something new and unique. The least I can do is mention how important he was to me and to the development of CMEpalooza in one of my blog posts. I think he would have gotten a kick out of that.
I’m not near as clever a writer as you, so please bear with me through my response.
I am truly intrigued by the agenda for the coming meeting and fully anticipating some cool updates. How stinkin’ cute is that little dog (sorry, everything I love is referred to as little)…..adorable she is. And I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. It makes me happy to know he was so supportive – that is a very important thing to kids (even if they are grown)….and as parents, sometimes I think we forget just how important even the tiniest bits of our support and encouragement are to our kids. I encourage everyone to throw that stuff around like confetti – everyone loves confetti, except the clean-up crew, but we can’t make everyone happy.
keep the updates coming – and best of luck keeping that little dog cool.
have a great day – wendy
Thank you for your kind (and clever!) words, Wendy. I couldn’t agree more! (FYI – that “little” dog is about 75 pounds and takes up the entire couch when she really spreads out. Also, it’s her 2nd birthday on Friday 🙂 )
Dads are awesome for that unwavering support and encouragement. Mine had no clue what I did as a paramedic, and was pretty upset w me for quitting college (w 6 credits left) to go to paramedic school. But he was still the first to ask about life and work and to listen when I had an awful call – albeit turning green at the same time. I hope the memories of your Dad bring you many smiles and laughs.
My condolences.

I am sorry for the loss of you dad. I am so glad you know how much he supported you. He obviously was a great influence in your life. There is nothing like a strong father!
I too have a greyhound. My first was 75 pounds and lived to be 12. I am on my second – he’s 100 pounds and 4 years old. He’s very very large for a greyhound. We rescued him from a failing racing career. He too literally takes up the entire couch, not to mention bed. But he’s a gentle giant and I love that.
Hope to participate with CMEPalooza in the fall.
My heartfelt condolences to you as well. Supportive parents are a blessing and comfort no matter how old we become. I’m so glad you shared that lovely tribute. Fall CMEpalooza sounds intriguing! Kind regards – Bonnie
Derrick, so very sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Thanks for sharing your memories!
